Press: Hawthorn Etching Press 22” x 46” & Rollaco Etching Press 16” x 46”.

Max six persons for each day to allow for more quality printing time on the
two etching presses we have in the studio. This introductory workshop is designed for you to learn or re-develop, the basics of this well established printmaking process. The two-day workshop will cover the basic areas of an etching combing both safer and most practical process allowable within this studio envoirment and allowing you time for both experimentation and development of your work.
This workshop is open to all and offers an opportunity to work toward a
number of possible outcomes. All basic materials such as ink and proofing
paper is included.
Specialist paper and a range of inks and Zinc plate’s are
available to purchase at the studio. The day includes: Plate preparation and application of different grounds. Demonstration of applications of different drawing techniques using a range of etching and dry point tools. Combination of etching and aqua tinting of the plates using a range of different techniques. An application of hand ground inks and proofs printing

This newly introduced workshop and specialist Lithography printing weekend has been put together to introduce this most long standing and one of most beautiful of all the printing procedures that the studio can offer. Use most commonly by visiting artists and in the edition section of the studio this two-day course is designed to cover the main areas of this simple and most direct way of printing. During the two days you will cover both the technical and creative part of making reproductive images onto stones and proof printing them onto handmade specialist paper.

This introductory workshop is designed for you to learn the basis of this traditional printing process. This workshop is open to all and offers an opportunity to work toward a number of possible outcomes. 
All basic materials such as use of a stone each for weekend along with proofing
Ink & paper will be provided. The Day will also include: Stone Preparation and graining along with explanation of hand drawn imagery in conjunction with the stone procedure. Basic colour mixing and proof printing.

This is workshop is tailor made to suit those who may wish to use the facilities
at a later date.

What Large Woodcut & Relief Printing

Taught by Pete Williams the studios director and printmaker who is known for his very large woodcut & carvings exhibited widely across Wales and the UK. This is probably one of the most simplest and direct methods of printmaking open to all levels and skills. In this workshop you will learn about drawing directly on your chosen surface, MDF, ply board or any relief surface you want to bring along. A wide range of cutting tools are available and techniques on printing using the press and by hand will be covered and basic papers and ink also supplied. This workshop is open to all and offers an opportunity to work toward a number of possible outcomes. All basic materials such as ink and proofing paper are included.
Specialist paper and a range of inks and plates are available to purchase at the studio.

Water based silk-screen printmaking is back this spring by popular request. 
This one or two day workshop will cover the main areas of a simple but
effective form of water based silk-screen printing allowing you time for experimentation and development of your own work. The course is designed for you to learn or re-develop your skills of this most popular printing process. The workshop is open to all and offers an opportunity to work toward a number of possible outcomes. All basic materials such as the screen, ink and proofing paper are included. Specialist paper and a range of inks are available to purchase at the studio.
The day will include both screen preparation and photo emulsion
Application, 
combined with both photographic and hand drawn imagery created on special
film for application. A safe use of the exposure-unit and wash out booth and
basic colour mixing coupled with basic proof printing.

Alternative Woodcut  Week-end Workshop

5th & 6th May 2012

Saturday & Sunday  10 – 4 pm  Cost: £90 for the weekend.

This workshop will run along Williams’ show planned  for mid May at Chapter Arts Centre.

This workshop will be running over a Saturday & Sunday and will allow you to work on a large-scale project using specialist tools and techniques. All cutting and preparation of woodcut to take place on Saturday with final printing on Sunday. Basic print, wood block and equipment included. 

The workshop will include:

Block selection.

Preparing and drawing the block.

Use of cutting tools and demonstration of effects.

Multi block printing.

Hand burnishing techniques.

Paper selection

Proof printing using the studio presses.

Basic materials such as a small block, ink, sundries and proofing paper are included in the cost. Larger blocks and specialist paper are available to purchase at the studio.

All participants must book in advance to secure their place, as classes tend to fill up very quickly. Places are restricted to just six to allow individuals more time to use the facilities provided.
